Reusing Containers: Seven Things To Inspect
No matter what the shipping container modification might be before we undertake any kind of modular building, we will thoroughly examine the exterior and interior of the container. By law, each of these containers is required to meet a set level of standards for design and maintenance before they can be used commercially.

Step One: Exterior and undercarriage
Before undertaking any modular building project, the first thing that we do is conduct a comprehensive review of the exterior and undercarriage of the container. Step Four: Examine the left side
Once the right wall has been examined, we will then conduct the exact same tests on the opposite side of the wall. This will ensure we understand any areas of concern, signs of repairs and the structural integrity of that wall.
With this information, we can then determine which is the best wall to complete any modifications, such as adding windows. This is a vital part of the design process and ensures we are always delivering the very best products possible.
Step Five: Front Wall
Once we are happy the doors and walls are in good condition, the next step is to examine the front wall. This process is very similar to the right and left side checks, seeing us tap to find any strange sounds or hollow areas as well as checking for signs of wear or damage.
We will also ensure that all the blocks and vents are visible and working as designed as well as ensuring that the length of the container is accurate. Any anomalies here could indicate prior modifications that means it is not fit for purpose.
Step Six: Ceiling and roof
The next step is to then review the interior ceiling and external roof. We want to ensure that the height from the floor is accurate and that all blocks and vents are visible and working as designed. We will also review any areas of repair or signs of damage to ensure that the container is waterproof and will remain durable.
As we do with the walls, our team will then use a tool to tap the ceiling and examine any areas where there is a hollow or strange sound.
Step Seven: Review the floor
From there, the final check we make before making any kind of shipping container modification is to review the interior floor. This is one of the key aspects of modular building, so we want to ensure that it is the correct distance from the ceiling and is completely flat and uniform in height.
